Marine Systems All Phases - Department Head
Description
Platypus Marine, Inc. is looking for a Marine Mechanical Systems Department Head. This position will complete standard and complex repairs on all phases of vessel systems, including running gear, plumbing, HVAC, Genset, winch & davit systems, and all other mechanical problems. May assist lower-level technicians with repair of black & gray water systems, engine cooling systems, and steering. May also complete preventative maintenance activities as required. Completes all repairs and may act as a technical expert and resource to the rest of the shop. Completes necessary paperwork as required.

- Assist with bid preparation and review, daily hours and materials supply.
- Assist project manager and help maintain quality control.
- Oversee training of department employees, performance reviews, and discipline issues.
- Supervise use of department equipment and tools.
- Set up process procedures.
- Five day-40 hour week/overtime as needed
Requirements of Marine Systems Department Head
- Should posses all tools required
- Strong communication skills including verbal, written, and listening skills
- Ability to multi-task with strong attention to detail
- 5 years experience in marine maintenance
- 2 plus years experience in management.
- Ability to direct and train 5-10 person crew.
- Ability to maintain cleanliness and order of project and people.
- Teamwork mentality.
- Ability to practice appropriate time management.
- Resolve problems in a timely and positive manner.
- The right person must have a positive attitude, good supervisory and management skills.
- Must be willing to pass a drug screen.
- 90 day probationary period

- Should possess strong math skills
- Specific grooming requirements: no facial hair. Will be required to wear respirator

Marine Mechanic Technician
Minimum Requirements
2 years experience as mechanic on crew or in a shipyard. Servicing multiple makes of pleasure or commercial boats.
Other Skills/ Requirements
- Must be able to speak, read and understand English due to business necessity
- Must possess strong math skills
- Able to express ideas effectively in writing
Personal Qualities
- Ability to identify problems and offer alternative solutions
- Must have good personal interactions skills and able to work cooperatively with others
- Be self-directed and work with minimal supervision,

Physical Requirements
- Repetitive movements of upper extremities
- Frequent stooping or bending, standing for long periods of time

Knowledge
Marine mechanic knowledge able to recognize common systems used in the marine industry. Have experience working with running gear, main propulsion shafts and couplers and prop alignment, install and removal.
Experience
2 years working as a marine mechanic on crew or in a shipyard, servicing multiple makes of pleasure or commercial boats.
Skills
Personal knowledge of marine engine support systems able to use and understand measuring tools from tape to micrometers. Know working torque specs, grades and hardware on all mechanical applicators.

Experience
Application of urethane paints to boats, aircraft, automotive or trucks. Two years of prep experience, fairing and or body work. Buffing and detailing, light fiberglass repair. Aluminum and steel corrosion repair.
Skills
Operation of hand and power tools. DA sanders, air 90 air tools, grinders, polishes, spray equipment scissor lifts.
